About the arrests of February 15th in Paris and the alleged serial-ATMers

Translated from Non Fides

Last February 15th, at six in the morning, seven people were arrested and their houses searched, for an investigation concerning the agitation around the Vincennes detention Center revolt and trial, and against the deportation machine. Several details on these arrests and their immediate consequences…

House-Search and waking up at 6 o‘clock

No doors were broken, and in general, it has been possible to gain time before cops entered ( and before they threatened to use their ram). All in all, fifty Antiterrorist Section cops(SAT), of the Criminal Brigade ( followed with the DCRI-secret information police-, Financial Brigade, computers specialists…) were mobilised for this arrests raid. Mainly, they were looking for specific clothes ( scarfs, hats, jackets, sweat-shirt, shoes), but also flyers, brochures and posters- about all subjects, and especially those against deportation machine. Of course, they seized computers, mobile phones, diaries and other notebooks, and spray cans and banners ( „November 2005-December 2008, the arson is spreading“; “ No NATO, nor Taliban, let’s desert the powerful war“) as well. Cops took many pictures of different documents and books. Finally, cigarets and tooth-brushs were seized for DNA sample; some people were „asked“ for their underwear, but in vain. And, being over zealous, cops passed „DNA“ cotton buds on the bed sheets.

After this, people were taken away and questionned. Some people present during the house search were also questionned. Let’s remind that it’s not an obligation to accept the questioning.
Questionings

To have „nothing to declare“, to refuse to answer their questins and to not sign any of their papers during the watch, is less a general principle than a practical obviousness.
The reality of this cop-watch, is the cops time, when everything is done in order to obtain confessisons, and when any word can be used for charge [on this subject, one can read „Questioning techincs“ in Mauvaises Intentions compilation]. And inspite the pressure attempts, we know cops do not have the direct power to extend the watch time, not to impose a any condamnation. In this case, the people taken awat to custody didn‘t declare or signed anything.
ATM, promenades and occupations

In the begging of the arrests, the charges were “ voluntary, serious damages and destruction in a group“, “ arson or explosive substance damages or destruction“ and „criminal association“. Actually, the arrested people are suspected to participate to the agitation around the trial of the Vincennes detention center detainees in revolt, and to the struggle against the deportation machine in general [see the brochure A chacun le sien- about the collaboratiing vultures]. It’s a struggle that expressed itself through AirFrance and Carlson WagonLits agencies occupations, wild marchs [see the brochure Balade], posters and graffities, banks ATM sabotages – these banks well known for having denounced sans-papiers to cops, were sabotaged with glue, acid, arson and hammers hits, banners hung on the close ring of Paris. See Here.
This is what is called an investigation!

Though the investigation was, due to press, under antiterrorist note, the prosecution decided during the arrests to re-define the investigation from criminal to correctional, and then to remove the „antiterrorism“ note. What is attacked is the struggle against the deportation machine ( and against the world that goes with it), the self-organization and direct/anonymous actions as well.
The use of the video surveillance by police

During the questionings, video bands were showed to the accused. Notice that most of the time, the camera pictures ( these ’round‘ cameras up to the ATM) are quite good quality: high definition, colors, zoom… About 60 cameras bands are alreay added to the case. Of course, it’s not only about the damaged ATM, but also posters and graffitis during the wild marchs ( on Ibis Hostels, post banks, BNP, LCL, Société Générale, Air France…). How will it be, when the promessed 1300 cameras will be connected in Paris?!
About DNA samples

All the accused refused DNA samples ( digitales files and pictures as well), but cops tried their best to get whatever has been touched: plastic cup and cutlery, straws, cigarettes butts… and, what amazing, a pig even thought about slealing up an hygenic towel, for analysis… It’s possible to no touch with you month ( and so to not let your salvia) on the ustensil, or to scrub them on the floor, so you mix the DNA marks that are already in the cell. For more details about the DNA refusal and the judicial application: http:/adn.internetdown.org.
In front of the judge, and judicial control

After 48 hours of watch, nd 10 at the depot, one by one, and with a lawyer, the accused meet the judge. Three options are left: to shout up, to make an initiale declaration, or to answer the questions. Four people are finally under investigation, and condamned to a judicial control. It’s forbidden to see each other or to contacte each other, they must answer the APPE call ( Judicial Help Association), and it’s forbidden to leave the national territory without asking the judge [see the brochure Prison at Home].

Finally, four people are under investigation for “ damages or destruction in a group“, two of them are also accused of “ arson or explosive substance damages or destruction“. A fifth person is looked for, accused of the same facts.
To break the struggle

The main goal of these arrests and the judicial control that follows is to separate and to isolate more and more those who fight. It’s also about to eradicate some ways of revolt- as common as postering, graffitis and wild marchs. To condamn some ways of action, with the excuse they are directily linked to the current repression, only reinforces the separation the State tries to impose [see the text Un Pavé dans les rouages]. This arrests, house search and investigations raid, if we do not consider the information work police did, is only one more pressure hit against any desire to act, and to destroy what destroy us!

Everything goes on!
Struggles and revolts in Europe

The current context is not reduced to France; in Europe, the revolts are many, in the Detention Centers and around. To learn more about these actual struggles, one can read the follwing brochures [in french]:
- Fire to borders
- History of the revolts in Detention center in Europe

In Italy, the same type of repression attacked, several days after the arrests in Paris, some people suspected to participate to the struggles against the CIE, in Turin, Lecce, Rovereto… Severale of the accused were put in prison and put under house arrest, and other under „special surveillance“.
But solidarity does not care about borders eighter; so it’s with joy we learnt the recent attacks against ATM in Belgium and Spain.

WE WON‘T CRY FOR SMASHED ATM
THE STRUGGLE GOES ON
ACTIVE SOLIDARITY
LIBERTY FOR ALL, WITH OR WITHOUT PAPERS
