From Embers: New Content in April 2019

From North Shore Counter-Info

From Embers is a regular anarchist podcast produced in Kingston, Ontario. We produce a few episodes each month about actions and projects going on in so-called Canada that inspire us, or about topics that we think will be relevant to anarchists living north of the border. We are a proud member of the Channel Zero Anarchist Podcast Network.

This month we produced three original episodes:

April 11th: Ayahuasca, Colonialism and the Death of a Healer

Interview with Kevin Tucker about his latest book The Cull of Personality, which tells the story and surrounding context of the murder of Shipibo-Conibo healer and indigenous rights activist Olivia Arevalo at the hands of Canadian ayahuasca tourist Sebastian Woodroffe in the Peruvian Amazon. Woodroffe was subsequently lynched by members of Arevalo’s community, which became a big story in the Canadian press. We discuss the story, ayahuasca, colonialism, and new age spirituality in a civilized world.

April 18th: Veganism and Mutual Aid

Recording of a talk by Alexis Shotwell on veganism, relational ethics, and mutual aid. From the event description: “Will eating plant-based foods save us from climate catastrophes? Should everyone eat vegan? How should people who care about the world understand “clean eating”? Is Jordan Peterson pursuing a beef-only diet because he’s an asshole, or because he’s managing a severe disability, or both? Is criticizing factory farmed meat the same as criticizing Indigenous hunting practices? What does any of this have to do with mutual aid?

April 25th: Anarchist Bookfair XX

The Montreal Anarchist Bookfair is the largest anarchist gathering in North America and 2019 is its 20th year. In this episode, I interviewed two members of this year’s bookfair collective.

Topics include:

  • what, if anything, does the bookfair have to do with books?
  • is the bookfair for “us,” for “recruitment,” or both?
  • how much should event planners try to shape a space like this?
  • what kinds of policies are appropriate and how, if at all, should they be enforced?
  • what should we expect at this year’s bookfair?

You can tune in to From Embers in the Kingston area on CFRC 101.9 FM between 8 and 9 PM on Wednesdays. You can also stream episodes directly at fromembers.libsyn.com or subscribe and download them via any major podcatching app on your smartphone.

What a bunch of libtards... Syndicating their site through facebook?

And is the issue of White dreadlocks being addressed in these podcasts, or just silenced as the Leftie manipulators usually do?

they’re referring to that policy at the Montreal Anarchist Bookfair (which later turned out to be a joke or was it real?). basically that whole week was all that was talked about along with the contrasting “dangerous space policy” at the Green Scare Bookfair. remember now?

wait, they wasted time talking about the dangerous space policy at green scare anarchist bookfair? why??? whats the point?

i mean in anews comment section that was all that was talked about in that week

that report back is fake since the bookfair hasn't even happened yet. just sayin'.

yes, i know. just trying to jog their memory, or at least point to the week they can go back to search (plus excuse to reminisce about the memes, it was p lit)

Oh gotcha!

You know, there's a pretty easy way to find out what's on the podcast. Yeah, they talked about it. It's embarrassing that anarchists will give in to calls to recreate the social role of the cop. More embarrassing than the word libtard? Perhaps, but barely.

Also, I don't see any facebook links.

Try giving the episode a listen before shooting your mouth off? Or is @news just a place for you to vent your vague angst, like you're in a shitty rap metal band?

I will throw the first piece of faeces at the philistines who offend the common aesthetic.,.

'indigenous' humans as being so morally superior when it is evidential that it's false? There is death and destruction left in their wake through their own minds/ideologies and technologies. Tucker is fast becoming the Milton Friedman of primitivism with his rose-coloured spectacled evangelism. And, as usual, no counter arguments from his interviewer... this is becoming very popular in podcasters: not to challenge their guests. Just as corrupt as any other money-making media platform. The objective podcast is doomed. Please donate and the biggest donation has the prize: choice to suck me off or...let me think...er... suck me off!

Tucker is very accurate in describing the Western tourist bringing their crypto-colonialist baggage to an indigenous religious ceremony using psychosomatic drugs, most likely a deep meditative trance-inducing ritualized consultation seeking personal psychological epiphanies. The tourists can never quite shed their underlying conditioned conquest mentality and its authoritarian methodologies, and the alien gets to experience for the first time a taste of unmediated justice in its raw and spontaneous execution.
