Come play "not my city" in Atlanta this May Day

via maydayatlanta.org:

Despite the humidity the southeast can feel like a bit of a desert sometimes. Numerous small towns populate our region and most of them won't be observing May Day. We would love it if all the friends we don't yet know from the southeast and beyond would come join us in Atlanta for May Day. You and your affinity group are cordially invited. Housing will be provided May Day night as well as the night before.

An anti-capitalist march will be forming up at Troy Davis Park at 10:30AM and heading to the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Non-Violent Social Change at the corner of Jackson and Auburn to end at 1PM. There has been a callout for an anti-capitalist bloc to breakaway from this march. Preparations have been underway for some time now, but please come materially prepared for the May Day you want to experience…don't forget your black hoodie.

</t...

There will be much more going on in Atlanta for May Day than just this anti-capitalist march and bloc. Some highlights will include a Black vs. Red soccer game, workshops, a really really free market, really really free food, and a film screening. Below is the ... of events that we are planning on May 1st.

10:30am-1:00PM March from Troy Davis Park
With constant attacks coming down on working people, the poor, women, immigrants, and black communities in the state of Georgia, we feel it’s well past time to take the offensive.

This year, May Day Atlanta has worked to create a space for those of us who are ready to take the extra step to show out with a display of solidarity and strength!

Although there are several actions and marches being talked about and planned on May first this year, this march will be an opportunity for all of us to march together, unified as anti-capitalists. This May Day march will be a safe, permitted, and family-friendly event. Feel free to bring musical instruments and plenty of hand-held signs. We plan to flyer throughout the event to passers by, so be on time if you’d like to help distribute them.

Please come and march with us and spread the word! We’re looking forward to spending our day with people we care about and those who will take a stand with us. The march will start at Troy Davis Park (formerly Woodruff Park, located at the intersection of Edgewood and Peachtree St NW) and continue to the Peace Amphitheater (the intersection of Auburn and Jackson St).

2:30PM-4PM Red Vs. Black May Day Soccer Game at Coan Park
For those of y'all unaware of what this Red Vs. Black soccer thing is all about, it's a game of mad skillz (mother fucking soccer yo!) where the reds (socialists and communists of organizational, party, and leninist tendencies) go head to head with their bastard cousins in team black. (anarchists, autonomists, and anti-authoritarian communists)

If the reds win anarchists have to admit that the vanguard actually is the advanced segments of our class and that marxists have better facial hair.

If team black wins, the reds have to agree to give anarchists full communism now and agree to never mention Kronstadt never ever again.

4-10PM May Day Festival
Atlanta, GA 30317

Food and water will be available. Activities within the park will include free barbecue and cooked vegetables, live music, dancing, a Really Really Free Market, workshops, a maypole celebration, a film screening, children’s activities, and more. Please see our schedule below.

The Really Really Free Market (RRFM) is like a garage sale where everything is free. The only rules are no buying, no selling, and no trading. Bring things that you don’t want like clothes, books, or appliances, and take whatever you want with you. Donations can be given in advance if you would like to donate but can’t make the RRFM. Please contact info@maydayatlanta.org to do so.

Enjoy grilled barbecue and vegan foods for free. Celebrate with us in Coan Park, and while you’re at it, you can build up our community in struggle and plug into local Atlanta organizing. No work, no school, no banking, and no shopping: enjoy free barbecue and good times in Coan Park.

Live Music

7:45PM Maypole Celebration & Dance
The maypole dance is a traditional spring celebration dance. Super fun time! I Want Whiskey will be playing.

8PM Film screening: Salt of the Earth
”Based on an actual strike against the Empire Zinc Mine in New Mexico, the film deals with the prejudice against the Mexican-American workers, who struck to attain wage parity with Anglo workers in other mines and to be treated with dignity by the bosses. The film is an early treatment of feminism, because the wives of the miners play a pivotal role in the strike, against their husbands wishes. In the end, the greatest victory for the workers and their families is the realization that prejudice and poor treatment are conditions that are not always imposed by outside forces. This film was written, directed and produced by members of the original ‘Hollywood Ten,’ who were blacklisted for refusing to answer Congressional inquiries on First Amendment grounds” (IMDB).

Trollolol

Even funnier that the Anti-Cap march will be leaving from there right afterword.

Anti-cap flier

thats actually a really sweet filer.

The revolution or insurrection or whatever will be graphic designed

why is there a hammer & sickle on the "prole stroll" anti-cap flier at the top of the story?

hammer & sickle = :(

anarchist-communism, the only true form of anarchism.

Haven't you seen RAAN's logo?

In Atlanta we're down with some pro-smashy commies. Still totally gonna put them up against the wall when we get the chance though. Gonna start with that soccer game first.

Whatever not putting anyone against walls but I'm wondering where the purported hammer and sickle are in that flier anyway?? must b blind

In the top left corner. All blurry and shit. Must have been using an old version of photoshop or spmething.

Yo, if you post militant shit like this, don't implicate individuals, especially without talking to them about it first. The people planning May 1st with the Atlanta May Day Coalition have their names and addresses on all of the permits for what's happening that day, and the website is registered in one of their names. It's cool if others want to do and talk about this kind of stuff, just practice a little security culture and don't implicate others. Next time, please don't say this kind of thing is "via" maydayatlanta.org or say "we" in your description. Aboveground and underground stuff needs to stay separate for the safety of the people who have taken initiative to open up safe, radical spaces for families, immigrants, and others who may not be able to risk arrest or direct confrontation with the police.

TLDR version: security culture

Only the schedule was taken from maydayatlanta.org All other words and images were not and have nothing to do with the Atlanta May Day Coalition folks.
