A Review, Study, and Some Ideas for the Future of Anarchist Archives

Hi there peoples. So this is a thing that I originally wrote for my grad school class because I'm interested in the subject & because I thought it might be useful/interesting to some people. It's far from perfect, obviously, but I hope you enjoy it anyway! If you don't have access to any of the things I cite (there are some that aren't open access), please feel free to email me & I'd be happy to send you a PDF or whatever! Also, if you have any questions/concerns/rants/etc., feel free to reach out as well. My email is sagan [at] ashevillefm [dot] org. OK, here goes!

TOTW: 2020 - The year past, the year ahead

all my friends are sinking beneath the waves

Topic of the week - As 2020 comes to a close, let’s take a look back at the ongoing social upheavals worldwide, the inspiring international anarchist actions, some books that have kept you turning the pages, and the music that has been the soundtrack to it all. 2020 has been a year, to say the least.

Anarchism and Punk – Call for Chapters

Anarchism and Punk – Call for Chapters

From jimdonaghey at noblogs

Anarchism and Punk – edited volume
There has been a wealth of excellent writing about punk over the last few years. The best of these have been the critical reflections that pull free of the quagmire of 1970s nostalgia, and the critical engagements that see beyond the narrow scope of punk’s Anglo-American birthing ponds. This Call for Chapters proposes to continue and extend that exciting work by considering in closer detail the relationships between anarchism and punk, with a contemporary emphasis and a global spread.

An anarchist & trade-unionist critique of education

An anarchist & trade-unionist critique of education

From Freedom News UK by Mohamed Khougali

This essay is an attempt to further elucidate and elaborate on a previous article written about the British Eurocentric education curriculum. In the instigating article, I write about the usurpation of history through academic revival and conserving a certain historic and narrative arc. I go on to talk about the purposeful deification of white accomplishment and what that means to the students. I suggest four chief concerns that come out of this practice of historic ‘cleansing’? “(1) whitewashing, (2) loss of history, and intellectual ignorance, (3) frozen time, consequently moulding of identity, and (4) intellectual privilege”.

Welcome to the 2020 Anarchist Bookfair in London

From London Anarchist Bookfair

We wish we could be together again this year to meet old comrades and foes, conspire, educate, organize and plot in person, but due to Covid-19, this event will be held online from Saturday 17th October to Sunday 18th October 2020.

We did our best effort to facilitate our collective's first anarchist bookfair, and to try and make it accessible and inclusive online.

Introduction to "Modern Science and Anarchy"

Introduction to "Modern Science and Anarchy"

From Anarchist Writers by anarcho

This is my introduction to Modern Science and Anarchy by Peter Kropotkin (AK Press, 2018). This was the last book published by Kropotkin during his lifetime (La Science Moderne et L’Anarchie, 1913) and he explores themes he had been raising since his first joined the anarchist movement in the 1870s. It shows that he did not become a reformist, as some claim, but remained a revolutionary anarchist communist to his death. The book is available, so please consider buying it for AK Press.

Introducing The Left Market Anarchist Zinelibrary

welcome to my dojo

From C4SS by William Gillis

The great advantage of the anarchist movement is our decentralization, but without resilient protocols and networks we’re always at risk of losing pieces of our history and knowledge. There have been a number of compilations of anarchist and left-market anarchist pamphlets and zines over the years, and unfortunately most of them have decayed or fallen into obscurity.
