Greece: December 6 – We don’t forget, we don’t forgive

15 years have passed since the night of December 6, 2008 when the murderous cop Korkoneas killed the anarchist student Alexandros Grigoropoulos with his colleague Saraliotis watching.
15 years since the night that shocked the whole society and led to a huge social uprising that exploded like a bomb across the country and lasted for months.
15 years since night-time stopped. The promises we made then remain open. They show us all that has been lost and all that needs to be done now.

BASTARD Conference 2023

The Berkeley Anarchist Study Group will present the 2023 BASTARD Conference on Saturday, November 11th at the Omni Commons (4799 Shattuck Ave in Oakland). BASTARD is an annual gathering of presentations and conversations about anarchy. It functions as a setting for participants in the study group along with friends and accomplices to share their reflections on the beautiful idea. It also serves as a place for anarchists to encounter each other amidst the ruins, with a view towards new friendships and endeavors.

TOTW: The anarchist campsite

TOTW: The anarchist campsite

Topic of the week – Earlier this summer the Anarchy 2023 festival in St. Imier took place with photos of hundreds of tents pitched and anarchists camping out together. While the festival in St. Imier had a much larger focus than just coming together to go camping, over the years these events where anarchists make a camp together to just hang out, have conversations with new and old friends, and spend time together seem to have become less common while events like bookfairs have taken center stage for the anarchist meetup. This week we’re sitting down at the ANews communal fire pit to share our thoughts on the anarchist campsite.

Questions to be Considered Before Chicago

Questions to be Considered Before Chicago

From Medium by Elisha Moon Williams

“What is Bash Back!?”
“What does it mean to resist oppression?”
“What is our purpose?”
“Is our violence of substance or of image?”

These are questions that have ruptured throughout queer anarchist history since the late 2000s. Bash Back! has been called many different things over the years. If you ask 5 queer anarchists, you’re likely to get 6 different answers. Some have claimed that it is a decentralized network of autonomous queer anarchist cells. Others have considered it a gang, a tendency, or even just a symbol. According to certain folks, they’re all of these things and more.

Running Down the Walls 5K

Running Down the Walls 5K

From Anarchist Black Cross Federation

Since 1999, prisoners and supporters throughout North America have participated in the annual event known as Running Down the Walls (RDTW) often running or walking simultaneously in many cities and prisons at once. This is a 5k non-competitive run/jog/walk/roll in order to raise awareness and funds for political prisoners currently held in North American prisons. Over the years, we have raised thousands of dollars and lots of awareness around the struggle to free political prisoners. Many places will be hosting RDTW 2022 on either September 11th or 18th – stay tuned to our blog for more details from all of the locations participating this year!

Back with a Bang: The 6th Radical Bookfair to take Place in Derry

This year’s Radical Bookfair will take place in Derry as the city commemorates the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday. This year will mark the 6th Derry Radical Bookfair and the first since the global pandemic closed the majority of public gatherings. A spokesperson for the Derry Radical Bookfair said:

“We are delighted to announce that the forthcoming Derry Radical Bookfair will be taking place once again at Pilots Row. It’s now viewed by many who attend to be the rightful home of the book fair, an ideal space right in the heart of the Bogside particularly at this time.
