Jorell Meléndez-Badillo is a historian and assistant professor at Dartmouth College focusing on the global circulation of radical ideas from the standpoint of working-class intellectual communities in the Caribbean and Latin America. He is the author of “Voces libertarias: Orígenes del anarquismo en Puerto Rico.” (PDF version)

After a brief interval of the crowd chanting “Police, join us!” (¡Policía únete!), a young man grabs the megaphone and addresses the cops:
“The government is a corporation of the people, which means you work for the people, don’t forget that. The government belongs to the people, we pay taxes, it’s not for free. Never forget that. You are going against your own boss; that is an anarchy.”
