Zmicer Palienka has gone on a hunger strike!

Former political prisoner from Belarus Zmicer Palienka, who is currently kept at a temporary detention facility on suspicion of committing a crime under part 3 of article 339 of the Criminal Code “Hooliganism of a particularly serious nature”, has been maintaining a hunger strike since 24 March.

That has been confirmed on Facebook by his friend Viachaslau Kasinerau, “Vyasna” website reported.
The activist states that Palienka has announced the following requests to the detention centre’s administration: regular medical service, ensuring freedom of correspondence and to be given a pen.
It is known that Zmicer has his dermatitis aggravated. Throughout the time of detention the doctor only came to Zmicer on one occasion to provide him with medical care. That is nowhere near enough.

Palienka also requests that the detention centre’s administration gives him a pen since he does not have a possibility to write letters to his friends, as well as complaints to administration.
Viachaslau Kasinerau informs that Palienka also experiences problems with getting correspondence.

“Since Zmicer was arrested a lot of people have sent letters to him, yet only one letter came through. He demands that his freedom of correspondence is respected so that he can receive and send letters”, – states the activist.

Zmicer Palienka was brutally arrested in his flat on the morning of 20 March on suspicion of committing a crime under part 3 of article 339 of the Criminal Code (“Hooliganism of a particularly serious nature”), more precisely, on spraying pepper spray at a man’s face. He has been kept at the detention centre for 8 days already. It is known that Palienka has been apprehended for 10 days.
