You caricature pessimists that say "I think it's hopeless, therefore it must be hopeless, therefore you must think it's hopeless."

I could caricature your musing as "Dear pessimists, since you're pessimists, can you be optimists now?"

I think it's equally silly to identify with any of the many emotions and moods, recurrent and perennial as they may be.
It's annoying to see optimists and pessimists interact.

One is free to celebrate and mourn one's inevitable demise, look forward to it and dread it, enjoy the good parts in between, etc.
You can go through the 5 stages of grief in any order you want.
Has anyone ever written an equivalent 5 stages of joy?
