Greening Anarchism

pupperz = anti-civ zoomies camp

From Cindy Milstein WordPress by Cindy Milstein

My dear friend and mensch #MurrayBookchin would turn over in his grave if he heard me say this, but between, in particular, this summer’s capitalist-fueled fires, floods, droughts, heat waves, tornadoes, and other “new normal” extreme and deadly weather catastrophes, and today’s “late to the end-of-the-world party” UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report, we need a renewed #GreenAnarchism.

Or as a wise younger anarchist friend put it recently when we were walking and talking radical politics (including past heavy machinery ripping down trees for a “green” gentrification project in a spot where unhoused people’s encampments had been ripped down only months ago), we need to bring together the best of anticiv or green anarchy with the best of social ecology, sans the acrimony and polemical caricatures between the “camps.”

Each perspective, each with its own multiplicity of tendencies, strategies, and practices, is at heart concerned with how much we humans have been estranged from the ecosystem of which we are one humble part. That in turn has estranged us from ourselves and each other. And this profound, deepening alienation has opened the floodgates, so to speak, for humans as a whole to think they’re not only superior to and/or separate from the nonhuman world (and now space) but also can dominate it—to the point of “us” humans destroying the very basis for our life as a species: our home, this planet.

Perhaps we’re already seeing this generative blend in the numerous encampments against everything from pipelines, fracking, and old-growth logging to airport expansions and more. They are able, for instance, to both critique ways that “civilization,” such as in the guise of colonialism, is unecological, and offer visions of how humans could live in relative social ecological harmony within the autonomous, self-governing communities that evolve from the initial encampments in many cases.

I’m not alone in feeling hopeless. No Green New Deal or UN-brokered plan is going to save us. A collectively caring, greened, social ecological anarchism just might, or at least offer lives worth living in what time we have left.

A recent thread by Peter Gelderloos

“ Please share this with everyone who is sinking into desperation:

CLIMATE CHANGE IS NOT URGENT.

It was urgent in the 60s, 70, 80s, and 90s. Now, tens of millions of people are ALREADY dying every year and species are going extinct at an unprecedented rate due to #ClimateCrisis

and all the interlocking ecological and social crises. The institutions sharing this narrative of urgency are the ones who did not take valid actions when there was still time, who even criminalized such actions while profiting off false solutions.

The reason they talk urgency now is not because they care about all the poor and racialized people who are dying or the unique habitats being lost, it's because they are afraid of losing power. They admit this quite clearly at Davos, at NATO summits, in their financial journals.

No matter what happens now, we will have to deal with a convulsive, sometimes deadly biosphere for the foreseeable future, maybe the next 5 generations, maybe the next 50.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING is not to find the quickest, easiest bandaid solution, but to find the best solution for the long haul. This means totally dismantling the system and the mentality responsible.

THIS is what has green capitalists like Elon Musk, the millionaire CEOs of the environmental NGOs, state leaders, scientists of the leading technocratic institutions, and the cheerleaders of white supremacist western civilization so afraid. It means a world without them.

Our most urgent duty is to take care of one another, to help one another survive. This includes our bioregions and the other living things around us.

And the next most important thing is to make sure those responsible will never be able to harm anyone ever again.

Whether that means destroying the institutions that give them power, making sure that their names live on in infamy as the most evil people to ever walk the face of the earth, or hunting them down in their doomsday bunkers, time will tell.

I don't follow PG, who tends notto be talking to me, but this is a really solid point.

but he's just gotta throw in his legacy leftist enemies that are white and western. Fact is we are seeing the formation of a multicultural world society with ugly cybernetic 'phillip k dick-in-the-ass' overtones. The white western is a dying all but dead force. The 4 corners of the world have some kind of blame in all of what has hitherto built up.

I would also again emphasize that habitat loss is the bigger issue then climate change by A LOT. That's the bottom line as far as eco propagation goes. Ecology must leave behind a catastrophic structure of thinking and head towards an orientation of radical sentimentality. Having a biodiverse world is good in and of itself and ultimately aesthetically pleasing as opposed to utilitarian and just.

"habitat loss is the bigger issue then climate change by A LOT"

what a seemingly binary perspective.

not a very meaningful difference tho! just one that turns your troll bullshit back on you

Binary requires an oppositional counter effect, and therefore its not a binary perspective but a different aspect of a common problem.

Habitat loss and climate change are different aspects of the same problem.

"White" and "western " are shorthand for an error in thinking. Unfortunately this error has now spread to the vast majority of people, particularly in their governmental / national realms. It is still useful to keep these shorthand names so we do not loose sight of history and nature of the problem.

...without better words to properly describe it. So I disagree with PG's narrative from '00s anarcho-left. It's not about "the State staing on its last leg", but about installing a whole new fucking gigantic chair with its legs planted down everyone's throats and brains.

Davos still is alive and well... it happened early this year, unopposed... people like Klaus Schwab welcoming a speech by the "honorable" Chairman Xi, in between promoting his Great Reset agenda.

Davos hasn't backed down by one milimeter; on the contrary they're gone on full open season mode, because in a global state of emergency that's a hundred times more effective than the War on Terror, coz the "masses" got their feet already entangled into it.

This is the generation that wholehearthely sold out to Apple and Fedbook. This is why such a large portion of the Left and anarcho-left went head-first into the Covid State last year, and some of them believe in the delusion that getting vaxxed will both cure them from Satan Covid as well as give them the "liberties" they once enjoyed within the system.

Climate Change is the enemy's funnel-vision narrative for domination. You can't be pretending wanting to fight their system all the while endorsing these narratives as unquestionable truth. The real crisis is of a political nature, on a global scale... we are witnessing a retrograde shift toward hyper-managerial powers that directly attacks the daily lives of everyone. It's friends, lovers and families being further separated by these micro-controlling re-territorializing politics based on the same old fear of death.

Solidarity (helping one another) indeed is crucial here and this is where I can agree with PG.

the usual dialectical -- or should that be just plain incoherent? -- lachrymose and hopeful whining we've seen from Cindy for the past three decades... why mention Old Man Murray at all? Cindy's hagiography apparently knows no bounds, as she continues to celebrate her mentor, another fake (or at least cringeworthy anti-revolutionary) anarchist. her yearning for some kind of broad unity between anticiv anarchists and her own type of bland green-tinged reformism so quickly after invoking the sectarian squabbler most responsible for the acrimony she decries is unintentionally hilarious, bordering on the self-parodic. she continues to embarrass

I always think of anarchy as being green in its own nucleus and therefore not requiring a green colored blueprint. I will continue to use petroleum, plastics, media, tools until nature sends a virus that destroys me. I have had my vaccine, I never use jet planes or travel more than 200 miles by road. I do not eat much meat, I have an old laptop computer and solar charger.
I am more green than David Attenborough and I am an anarchy loving plastic using free thinking simple person on the edge of a forest. Thankyou.

As usual Cindy having a say and saying very little, always with the unity of tendencies narrative but no concrete proposal, no collective endeavor just a vague watering down of meaningful anarchist thought and the tone of sage wisdom while saying little of content

This is such a vague piece. It to me reads as “oh fuck maybe the green anarchists were right.” Yet still trying to grift about social ecology being the true way. The world burns and there’s no amount of prefiguration that’s going to help. Murray Bookchin renounced anarchism and spent a chunk of his career trying to divide anarchists. Social ecology is the most watered down feel good ideology. If I see one more solar punk meme while civ continues to fuck the planet I’m going to explode.

I've obtained 12 x 1.2 Volt Solar panels and I'm joining them together to get 12 volts then I'm gonna get a 12volt to 110 volt inverter so I can watch revolutionary memes on tv and my laptop and then grow potatoes and keep chickens and have chicken and chips occasionally!

Goddam rite as of now. Fucking red greenies being so fucking annoying with their generic ramblings... For fuck's sake when is the major coordinated attack on the power grid happening? Burning cars? I'm randomly slashing tires of yuppie cars without even posting communiques, so what are these big gangs of woke idiots doing with all they got?
