RIP “Kota” (or “Koda”)

A Special Delivery to a Dearly Departed Wild One

The year is 2019. We’ve arrived in California from Kansas City. We decide to spend the night in the Bakersfield, California train yard where our train to Portland will be rolling in sometime in the morning. This will be my first time train hopping to a bookfair (Seattle Anarchist Bookfair), and my first time riding trains with Kota.

Addio Gino

From U.S.I. Arti e Mestieri (Arts & Crafts) A.I.T.
May 9, 2023

Luigi Ancona, known to everyone as Gino, has left us.

In Bitonto and outside, everyone knew him.

A restorer with a background in theater, he was always on the front lines when it came to protecting the common good, even at the risk of dramatic actions.

An artist, defender of beauty, and enemy of injustice, a man with an immense civic sense who fought a thousand epic battles alone.

From Anarchist Communist Group and Kate Sharpley Library
April 19, 2023

From ACG:

We are saddened to learn of the deaths of two former subscribers to Organise! magazine of the Anarchist Federation. Some of us remember them from when we were in the Anarchist Communist Federation/Anarchist Federation and when Organise! was a very fine anarchist communist publication.

Ted Kaczynski dies at 81

From Washington Post

He knew none of his victims and struck unpredictably from coast to coast in seemingly random acts from 1978 to 1995, baffling law enforcement officers and gripping the country in a kind of menacing unease — until his capture in early 1996 in the remote mountains of Montana.

There, Ted Kaczynski, the scrawny, bearded anti-technology anarchist popularly known as the Unabomber, surrendered peaceably at the primitive plywood cabin he had called home for 25 years. He was escorted by federal agents through slushy snow down a backwoods road to the main highway and, ultimately, to prison for the rest of his life.

Alfredo Salerni is no Longer With Us

From Sicilia Libertaria
April 11, 2023

It is with great sorrow that we inform you that comrade Alfredo Salerni is no longer with us. On the morning of today, April 10, he passed away. For those who knew him it will be easy to understand how much his absence leaves a void among us. Alfredo felt anarchist ideals in himself as a young man and kept them to the end, with an important consistency and determination. Alfredo hated these "funeral announcements" as well as any kind of rhetoric.

With deep sorrow, we bid farewell to Yoli

From Federación Anarquista de Rosario
April 4, 2023

It is with deep sorrow that we bid farewell to our dear compañera Yoli who passed away yesterday. A committed, caring, and combative anarchist militant with whom we were lucky to share years of meetings, events, marches, and other activities. A beautiful voice to sing Hijos del Pueblo and A las Barricadas. A comrade whose daily efforts brought us closer to a new world.

Obituary: Agustin Torres Ramos

Article published in Rojo y Negro nº 377, April 2023

(Madrid February 1, 1924 – January 30, 2023 Valencia)

As a child he had to suffer the cruel War in Madrid besieged by bombs. His father, a railway CNT member, was on an armored train picking up the militiamen wounded at the front. At a very young age, he began working as an electrical technician and joined the clandestine CNT in 1943.

In Honour of Helen Harris a radical, a feminist and anarchist

From Derry Anarchists

On 13th May of this year, Derry had lost one of its finest daughters, following a lengthy battle with cystic fibrosis.  Helen Harris was without a doubt an inspiration to many who knew her, a friend and comrade who had the privilege and opportunity to travel alongside of her during the 39 short but eventful years of her life. Helen was a radical, a feminist and anarchist.
