Jesús Arteaga was one of the core members of the long-remembered Kasal Popular de València.

The libertarian left of Catalonia has lost one of its leaders. The well-known activist and charismatic musician Jesús Arteaga (Jipy) died on Friday, as confirmed by one of the organizations in which he collaborated, the CGT union in Valencia. He also published the book Jóvenes y menores en la diana (Embruecimiento social y televisión), where he analyzed the control of young people through television.

A declared anarchist, he was one of the founders of one of the most influential groups of the alternative movement in Valencia, the Skaparápid. The band is considered one of the pioneers of Valencian rock in the nineties, along with Ki Sap and Obrint Pas. Jipy and his colleagues founded the group in 1993 in the Kasal Popular de Flora, a large busy social center located in the Jardins dels Vivers in Valencia, a place that became a meeting point for the alternative movements of Els Països Catalans until their eviction in 1996.

The group published four albums and a compilation: Skaparàpid , Que empiece ya , El cuento de nunca acabar , Ací estem and Revolta. One of the group's anthems is Que trabaje el rey, a song that has been covered by many bands around the world. In addition to touring the best-known venues in Catalonia, they also traveled to South America and had collaborations with musicians such as Fermín Muguruza or the Italians Banda Basotti.
