Friends and comrades, welcome!
With more love and rage than ever, we invite you to this year’s Zagreb Anarchist bookfair that will take place from September 4 till 6.
With the intention of bringing anarchist ideas closer to the general public, and out of our usual spaces and meeting points, the first day of the bookfair (Friday, Sept 4) will take place in one of Zagreb’s parks (exact location tbc).
The second and the third day (Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th of Sept) will be held at our beloved still-standing-strong squats – Postaja and Reci:klaonica.
This year’s extended organising collective brainstormed a list of topics we find important:
Growing authoritarianism and repression, rise of fascism
Surveillance, militarisation, arms industry, border regimes
Evolving strategies of protest, direct action and political activism
Squatting and autonomous spaces, projects, structures, all things diy
Anarcho queerfeminism – bodily autonomy, phobias/prejudice from within, towards total liberation
Anarchosyndicalism
Taking care of eachother and ourselves – resilient community practices – Ableism and system of abillity
***These are our proposals, but the final program will depend on proposals coming from your side, and the amount / type of confirmed contributions
With this in mind, on the first day of the bookfair we’re taking it to the park! We want to share what’s been cooking in our self-managed horizontal kitchens, gardens, libraries, unions, in our own heads, our endless collective meetings, support circles and assemblies with the curious passers by, the so-called general public that may have not yet been lucky enough to meet the anarchist ideas, or an anarchist in real life.
We’ll hold a discussion, workshops for adults and children, exchange books and plants, and of course share a vegan meal all together.
***Please note: no book selling on Friday, as this part of the program is taking place in a public space
On Saturday and Sunday we’ll see you in Postaja and Klaonica that will host book stalls, discussions, workshops, exhibitions, performances, concerts, games and more (feel free to propose!).
All participants of the fair will be provided with a vegan meal. We will also try to provide accommodation for participants (in the above mentioned squats and private accommodation at friends’ from Zagreb. Additionally, we can provide recommendations for alternative accommodation options, such as hostels).
In case you want to come, but can’t afford it, get in touch and we’ll see how we can support you in covering your travel expenses. We have limited resources, but we also want to do whatever we can to avoid travel cost to be an obstacle for anyone who wants to join.
The fair is based on the ideas of anti-authoritarianism, anti-fascism, anti-capitalism and other anarchist principles, and we hope that it will, like other anarchist fairs, will serve as a platform for getting to know each other, networking, distributing materials and sharing experiences in a common struggle. The fair is horizontally organized according to libertarian principles, and therefore financed on the basis of donations and benefit events.

In the end, we would also like to invite you to forward the invitation to comradely collectives and distributors.
