I'm only about 20 minutes…

I'm only about 20 minutes into the totw convo and the thing about elitism in @ theory and philosophy is reminding me of (of all things) reading Elements of Refusal way back in 1990 and stumbling over the word/concept reification. I looked in the dictionary and it still did not make sense to me then. Over time though and with the desire to find out, eventually I got it. My point is that some ideas maybe should be difficult because the effort one makes to *get it* IS the actual point, innit. I have had the same problem with the term hermeneutics, though slowly I am learning.
in terms of telling non anarchists about anarchy the best way is to act non-hierarchically with people and let them understand viscerally how it is. then lay theory or philosophy on them, if they want some broader context. imho of course.
also, so far this discussion is great, thx.

Finished. I have some further thoughts: philosophy is a conversation that has been going on 1,000s of years, sure. no one will have perfect understanding of all of that, not even your college professors. The way I see it a lake is more than thousands of years old and you can jump in anywhere and get something from that, sure, not the whole of what that lake is but some knowledge. And like a lake, philosophy can be a shallow wade or a deep dive and both approaches have value. Learning to swim is a skill that requires effort as is philosophy.
moving on, is exclusivity being used where opacity might be more apt? because there are a ton of reasons to not lay all your shit out for just any fed to read/engage with. To me, exclude is an act, like to physically not allow someone in your space. whereas opacity is like making it hard to find your space, as it were. which is why I agree that depending upon why, exclusion can be authoritarian, but opacity is mostly common sense.
really, I had problems with what, exactly, was meant by particular words used in the totw, like accessibility, like who is against disability so much they're debating accessibility?? but of course something other was meant.
also, next time put the doggo on mic ;)

The discussion of…

The discussion of accessibility was very thoughtful. It reminded me that before I ever had a college degree, I loved dense theory and wanted to discuss it. Usually more than people with degrees. I also believe that we should be "exclusive" on matters of security culture & counter-repression.
There is also a tendency in above-ground activist groups to use accessibility as a wedge for more insidious things like democratic mass movements/populism. We can have spaces where we mentor newcomers without compromising our values and desires.
