Garvaghy Road: No Going Back!

From Derry Anarchist Collective

Anarchists once again extend our full solidarity with the people of Garvaghy Road in their opposition to sectarian marches at this time. What we are witnessing on our streets right now, is the death throws of various sectarian figures and their organisations, in an attempt to capitalise on fueling hate and division for their own agendas.

Anarchists across the world, as here in Ireland, firmly reject the division of our class, the working class, in all its forms. Be that by the State, its political classes and its apparatus who seek power, domination and supremacy through the deliberate division of our class.  These acts of division repeatedly come to the fore and take many forms such as racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia or as we are once again witnessing on Garvaghy Road, sectarianism.

In times such as these, each of us need to be conscious at what is at play and reject the cesspit of what passes for Orange and Green politics. We know only too well that what is unfolding around sectarian marches that will set the clock back further on the victories made by our class. Especially in terms genuine community and workplace unity and solidarity. Long and hard fought battles against the our real enemies, the bosses and capitalism itself.

In Portadown, an area which has endured some of the worse sectarian atrocities over the last five decades and even today, local residents once again are being forced to accept a victory march by the supremacist Organe Order.

As anarchists, and as anti imperialists, we firmly reject sectarian marches being forced through areas were they are not welcomed. In doing so, we again extend our solidarity with the people of Garvaghy Road and their opposition to the sectarian marches. Over the past number of decades in the six counties, anarchists have repeatedly stood with communities under siege from sectarian marches and will continue to do so. In Garvaghy Road today, we echo the call that there should be no going back. Re-traumatising communities through triumphant hate marches and the sectarian division of our class.

In the words of the former Civil Rights activist, Bernadette McAliskey on the current standoff at Garvaghy Road in Portadown who noted:
"British 'rule of law' was never designed to deliver justice to those it oppressed.  The Law and its rules are designed to protect the system of oppression.  Be it class, colour or creed, there is no British Justice for its 'second class' citizens-only British colonial 'rule' of law. Garvaghy Road ruling demonstrates that fact once again."
We shall overcome

I know a soldier who did 4 tours of NI, and he told me that, even 5 years ago, that the culture of sectarianism is still there, but it's not like the 1970s at all. 'Culture' is almost dead everywhere that's globalised now, and I kind of lament its passing, but from an outsider's view, still find it hard to understand why 2 people from adjoining streets feel the need to blow each other to kingdom come. But that's the outsider speaking, who hasn't lived it, or been born and brought up in that culture. Easy for anarchists to disassociate themselves from national, racial or religious causes, but not so easy if you're part of it, if it is your identity. I always point this out. In the 12th century they had trouble with young men on the 'streets' of France and England. They got them into the churches and said 'Go fight Saladin, God wills it!' And sure enough they joined the Crusades. And they're still doing it today, and it is still rarely for the reason they state, Supergun.

What is the Derry Anarchist Collective? Because it looks just like Republican Nationalism to me. You even quote McAliskey, a marxist fangirl of the INLA who murdered the working class and who are extortionists, landlords and drug dealers today like most nationalists, with Sinn Fein being the big money launderette and also the largest and richest group of landlords on the island.

What is the Derry Anarchist Collective's view on the long slow violent cleansing of the city of the PUL population, particularly the working class in the Fountain whom you attack to this day? Maybe not you specifically, but your neighbours do.

The reason so many young PUL working class are joining the OO is because Republican Nationalists attack and threaten them, and it's seen as a collective means of self defence. Especially in PUL minority areas. If you don't like that, well, it's the future. Rural and small town and minority PUL areas are seeing death threat graffiti and constant social media gloating and veneration of the nationalist death squads and deciding to band together again. Youth recruitment is soaring.

Garvaghy is a SF op and you're all missing it. They bussed in old IRA murderers and a mob of people, not many local residents are even there. There's only a few of them. The march could have gone past unnoticed, 35 people early in the morning. Unionism is not "dividing the working class", nationalism is. Unionism is why we even have the NHS, the welfare state, no prescription fees, less car tax and much of our jobs. The working class in PUL areas isn't giving any of that up for the sake of being stranded as a besieged and despised minority in a UI state that wants us dead and gone. A little bit like what it's like for many Prods up in your Maiden "City" (lol) already.

Republican nationalism set off 10,000 bombs, murdered the working class and anyone else, civilian, innocent people, ignoring the vote we held in 1973 in which 98% of the country chose to stay in the UK. It kept killing and now it's poltical wing are money laundering landlords, although they often already were. It made sure peace was impossible until it was so infiltrated and coopted by the state it had to sign up for peace. Now you got SF slumlords. Scundered fer ye. We lost our jobs and factories and lives and sanity in the Troubles too and not once do I see a single one of you ever wonder if your nationalism wasn't the cause. It's all our fault apparently, our colonial genomes, which half of youse have too. Where is the anarchist theory on this?

You know well how much you lost up there from this all too.

So what's next for Republican Nationalism's small and irrelevant anarchist wing? You openly work with Republicans, or at least share space with them at book fairs. It's hard for the rest of us to see any difference.

If you side with the United Irelanders you'll see conditions get worse for the working class as all of London's free money goes. The Republic do not want to pay extra tax for us, and so they'll find a way not to. Goodbye NHS, goodbye no prescription fees for meds, goodbye less car fees, hello becoming part of a US neocolony whose rich elite in Dublin and SF view us all as squatters, particularly we PUL but also you, and want us all killing each other or gentrified out so they can buy up cheap. All the drugs flooding in from the South ruining our communities will help see to that.

Hy, good luck trying to unite the working class if you're spouting the rhetoric of Republican Nationalism. The rest of us know that means death. We are the minority now.

We never thought much of you Derry wans down here in Mid Ulster. Youse never came down here. My dad used to deliver beer kegs up to you until you started lecturing him that he was a bigot for being from where he was from and made it clear he wasn't welcome back.

Youse never seem to wannae know anyone else but youse even exists. We're all culchies to the Belfastiyins anyway. There's no solidarity coming east of the Bann from us these days.

There is hatred down here for all of Republican Nationalism, and bitterness, and SF are making sure it never ends. I don't like seeing this extend to CNR people, but we aren't escaping this sectarianism today. It's getting worse again.

We will survive without your help but it would be nice to see some fucking change in the same old trad ra'narcho shit.

Almost nobody down here believes in anarchism anymore. We had the genesis of something once but that's long gone. Nobody believes anarchists are abolishing NI, RoI, UK, USG and EU since that it what it would take. Every one of us would just laugh at the idea any of you will do anything but play a bit support act to nationalism. You're welcome to think the same about us an unionism because it's probably true.

You should hear what people here think about SF and the new ra dickheads. No appeals to working class solidarity are going to change that. We're seeing our trauma and the murders of our people celebrated, glorified and commodified. Noone likes us, and we don't care. The dream of the end of the us and then distinction is over because nationalism brought it back

Peace

Just to add to that post, in case anyone thinks otherwise: no I don't support that stupid march.

Before anyone accuses me of anything, that post is a warning, a report of sentiment.

There was once the very end of a world, when I was a late teen, and in that brief interregnum there was peace and social housing/cheaper rents.

Some of us learnt very bitterly that our little wannabe collectives and crash houses were just a joke that others used as a place to drink and drug. Nobody care about politics. But do you know what? I don't blame them. The war was over and we just wanted to party.

That's all gone now. Nobody down here is having any fun. No music, no little beginnings of a scene. Just fucking coke, crack, fent, despair, everyone leaves, no hope.

You have to be hardcore to even survive down here. We are fucking hated. What did we do? Born to the wrong minority. Not the fashionable one.

I tell people today - don't even rely on the Christians or the food banks, don't rely on the posh city leftists who think you're a scumbag hick. Get skills, get into electronics and growing your own food and surviving and expect nothing. Don't expect the basic freedoms queer people have in the city. Don't expect anything. Just survive and be harder and tougher and more realistic than anyone else.

And never fucking trust a United Irelander, the worst lying scum of all.

thank you billy for writing at a level (of layered, grounded reflection and critique ) rarely seen even in the articles here

i’m from afar and not familiar with the place… yet, the reasoning is strikingly familiar in the number of other situations where anarchists support national “liberation” causes. the statement is confused: the real enemies are capitalism and the bosses, orange versus green politics are a cesspit, okay good… then why “full solidarity” to one of the sides in this false choice between bourgeois factions? oh… it’s because of “ant-imperialism” and “colonialism”

no idea who DAC are but their site seems to mostly consist of this sort of solidarity with nationalisms and the derry book fair (gotta keep those anarchist small businesses busy making and selling anti capitalist commodities )

At the start of the Troubles there was a very small anarchist/libertarian group led by a guy called Michael Hall. He's still alive and has written books and a phamplet series which are to my mind the single best resource for understanding the actual minds and thoughts and lives of both working classes and people here. He earned the noble honour of having to flee the country because **both** Orange and Green paramilitaries were threatening him. All the cool people end up like that. See he cared about both sides and interviews everyone. Big mistake. One side evil one side good is what the people (Netflix) want.

His tiny group did have the same basic insight as anyone else who wanted peace back then. Both militant green and militant orange would lead only to death and civil warfare. Any sane person back then felt the same, left, right, atheist, Christian, liberal, conservative, whatever. We all lost. I wasn't born then but we all lost and we're still trying to recover. The dickheads romanticising this and pretending it would have worked - I just find it emotionally hard to deal with that. They often don't live here. They didn't lose anyone. They don't live with the scars.

Anyway, anarchism in the sense of a realistic hope of abolishing the state was and still is more impossible here than most places. You abolish NI, RoI takes over and you have half the population to get rid of. We have nowhere else to go. Nationalism still isn't listening. RoI pretends to be neutral, it's leader sent a condolence letter when Hitler died. The USA owns much of Europe today anyway. It trains the IDF (yes, that's what the Irish Republic calls it's tiny army). The amount of people here who want no state is too small. People here want to murder for a new state. The less realistic and the more irrationally romantic it's description the better. Ain't nobody getting rid of the state in itself here anytime soon. It's an interzone of overlapping states with overlapping claims, and the vast majority of people want one or the other.

The story is that this island suffers from British colonialism. The truth is every single time you find Irish nationalists working to help a foreign power colonise Ireland to use as a base to invade and attack England. The Spanish, French, Nazi and even briefly the Soviet empires. Today it's Putin/USA

We are all caught in the middle of this on an island too small to self defend, with delusional nationalists pretending they fight for it when they only fight for themselves. GB and Ireland are and always have been too intermixed to ever separate, and never truly will. Nationalism pretends it's more moral than Britishness and unionism, that's horseshit.

Most people here are so intermixed over the generations the idea that the flag outside their house that they'll fight and die for is any indication of their ethnic origins is a joke. Me, I don't personally believe anyones ethnic origins mean they have a right to kill and hate anyone else, but people who think like me always lose here. I've been told this is 'liberal' apparently, by upper class IRA loving Marxists in England. Our lives are spectacles for them and they want more gore videos.

Abolishing NI is what the Green side murdered us all to do, but at the start of the Troubles the government of RoI, which they wanted to join to create their "United" Ireland actually secretly phoned London and begged the British government to please for the love of fuck not do that and keep on keeping NI in the UK. 98% of people voted to stay in the UK. These facts are being forgotten by nationalism, which is mostly a movement that survives on the money of and inside the ignorant romantic delusions of foreigners, mostly Americans, whom it begs for money from, mostly today to become landlords and facilitate US interests. RoI is one big tax haven where all the US cybercorps place their European HQs to avail of low corporation tax rate and be able to do business in the rest of Europe without having to pay into European pension and healthcare funds. This and EU money has turned RoI, once fairly accurately caricatured as a broke quaint pastoral farming society, into the part of Europe with the highest rents, house prices, electricity costs. This and EU funds rapidly increased wealth starting in the 90s. One of the most insane rises in history. The end result is a state where everything is too expensive and there is mass emigration, as there has always been. They train teachers and nurses who head to Australia because they can't afford to live where they are born.

It used to be NI was the rich part, the industrial hub, that's why no sane working class person wanted to leave the UK. We slowly lost our industries then the IRA bombed away even more in its demented murderous desire to ethnically cleanse us and create some sort of romantic nationalist state, either the imbecile mystical socialism of Connolly or Catholic Gaelic theocratic fascism. The socialists and fascists collaborated together. They still like each other more than we "Orange bastards". I used to think I was neither Orange or Green but the Green side today makes sure I can't be neither. Born in that town, go to that school, talk with that accent, don't believe in a United Ireland? I'm one of them. I'm a "British coloniser", funny how many of the Green side also have surnames from England or Scotland, like Gerry ADAMS, Bobby SANDS, Martina ANDERSON, John HUME, and probably more than a few of the DAC who wrote that post. Their ancestors were probably on the boat over here before mine were. But see, the first three murdered us so they get to become good Irish nationalists now.

You can find Irish TERF bloggers who claim transgenderism is British colonialism (I wish I could take the credit) and Irish LGBT who claim queerphobia was invented by the Brits (all of we Orange bastards brought it here you see) and didn't exist in the real pure Irish only Ireland they want to murder queers like me to woke retvrn to.

Today the Irish people are so incensed at the fact that now there are jobs and no bombs and thus for the first time in human history a significant number (still tiny) of non white non western European people are moving here, the far right is contacting the American and Canadians who fund Sinn Fein and telling them they're woke globalist jihadis. The left just whines that Irish people can't be racist and it's all coming from we remaining Orange bastards.

In one sense they almost have something like a point about Sinn Fein because Sinn Fein are the largest richest group of landlords on the island now, and do take EU funds for accepting immigrants, and do represent the interests of big players who want cheap more easy to exploit labour in the factories and industries Sinn Fein IRA couldn't bomb away or extort from. So they pretend to be vaguely woke, but by woke they mean we Orange bastards needed to be murdered into the true proper real Irish ethnicity and can expect to be murdered out again one day. When they invite immigrants they vote farm them and if they don't get votes they try to get them deported. Or if they're Ukrainian they try to get rid of them to appease their longed for master Putin.

Fact is, globalization is here to stay. Boats and planes come everyday now. The right will lose because it doesn't want to do the hard manual labour then immigrants it hates do for it. But that labour can't get anyone a house anymore, so no wonder so many of us prefer the dole.

Sinn Fein make press releases pretending they want peace then their next statement is a little smirk using dog whistles to remind us they're joking. Sinn Fein are very into Free Palestine, so they chose to vote to allow a factory here to continue to send material to Israel then did Facebook photo posts of themselves demanding the British gov do more to fight the Zionists. Hashtag solidarity. I've heard I'm a Zionist because I don't support Irish nationalism. I'm ontologically, genetically Zionist because of my coloniser blood you see. This is called anti racism apparently.

We Orange Bastards have our own racism problem too. The irony is there's fewer of us than the Greens and we're doing slightly less of it if you look at the appalling truth. In RoI, the "liberated, post colonial indigenous Irish" arson attacked 33 immigrant asylum centres in a single year. Trying to burn the refugees inside them to death. You'd think the Irish left would be angry, but they are much more angry when an Orange Bastard like me talks about this and I won't go along with their lie that it didn't happen because only British people can be racist.

There was an anti immigration rally in Belfast. The British and Irish flags flew together as the men carrying them hugged. The right here is turning out to be almost better at post sectarian reconciliation than the left.

Ireland has gone from nationalism to hyper nationalism. Sometimes it feels only being British makes you free, or at least hated enough to not fall for the Irish volk's current manic ethno narcissistic wank. White people here are doing identitarianism and the left is all in on that too. I don't see a great future here. But there are almost no bombs today apart from the New IRA. Always a new one, they fight over that brand name like a band going after royalties.

The future will be a useless left who calls itself socialist and is fooled by left nationalist idiots to vote for more neoliberalism which doesn't call itself that. The new paramilitaries here, some of them want rid of queers and non whites. They blame the Brits for that, but also the Irish gov.

Anyway, thanks for appreciating my bleak ramblings.

If the idiots of the nationalist left vote for a United Ireland one day they will live to regret it. They'll get their wee flags and they'll watch as rich Dublin gets their houses while clapping for their brave "resistance" to British colonialism (car bombing nurses). Sad. I almost miss Queen Liz lol

The future?

We already got privileged Leftards in the West cheerleading for nationalisms that would otherwise exterminate them when the latter would get the power they seek! A neolib Ukraine with an army run by Neonazis? A Palestine run by Hamas fascists and the Islamic Jihad?

The future, I guess, will be those Lefties either performing a full-fledged turn to fascism à la Mussolini or (more likely) just being another bunch of neolib capitalists in nicer disguise.

It's slight different here. United Ireland used to be an insane fantasy that every sane person knew was never going go happen.

Today it could happen, but the idiots on the left here who want it are so lost in a millenarian nationalist anti British daydream they can't see that is they get it it will make everything worse.

Nobody wants to hear what I'm saying because the union is "colonial" apparently. Yet nothing is extracted and we just get free money. Oh well.

History will remember the Irish left of this period as a force prepared to ignore the murder and attempted murder of immigrants and side tacitly with such nationalists because but Britain bad

Every current national struggle is based on gross national-building constructs. But while it's true the Irish are just a regional variant of Celtic/Gaelic cultures, they are pretty different from the Britons.

Ukrainians, on the other hand, are but a regional crowd of Russians speaking a Russian dialect.

Palestine? Equally a made-up country that just never was a standalone country in any sort of way. Always either a province of Rome, or a province of some caliphate going by another name.

All nation-state formations are basically national bullshit. Only traditional nations are not. Actually the Irish are closer to this... but then again there's the whole problem of national identity... like how can one be Irish without having generations of ancestors from there? That leads to a form of racial exclusion.

My say to anarchists worldwide would be: "nationalism... stay away from dat shit!"

I agree with your main point but idk where to start with this.

All of the stuff you're saying about the different people's - you're saying some are real, some are not - some are really x and some are really y -

I can't express my frustration with all this stuff.

Ukrainians are real. Denying the reality of their separate identity is what the Russians who have been invading and trying to genocide them for a very long time do.

I don't even want to get into the rest.

There is no solution to this stuff because people make it up as they go along and people deny others identities for all kinds of reasons, but if someone is doing that to you it's usually a sign they want to destroy you. Which is how Britons here feel today

"Ukrainians are real. Denying the reality of their separate identity is what the Russians who have been invading and trying to genocide them for a very long time do

History is made of narratives. The Russian national-fascist has one, and the Ukrainian national-fascist has its own. Both of them are His-stories, Big-ass conflations, polarizing oversimplifications and rounding of corners all over. Both.

Same thing for Israel Vs Palestine, that's now a conflict between two fascist poles. Israel's become some mad religious fanatics' to bring about the Messianic nation of Israel predicted in the Bible, ergo, they wanna force a prophecy into a reality, by the force of arms and big money.

Palestine? It was a British Mandate... their flag came out of the Hashemite kingdom, that got beaten later by the Saudi... and before they started talking about Palestinian liberation it was all about the Pan-Arab movement, first pushed by the British then coopted by the Nazis. Both of these conflicting projects are political absurdities.

The fact one side is more dangerous and the attacker doesn't make it less true... it just turns out to be the side with the biggest firepower, at least for a time. Ukraine had been the stage of conflicting influences East and West for decades before Euromaidan and especially this war broke out. Ukraine's natural -and human- resources were/are the target for both sides... and both sides got their Marshall Plan already in motion.

The real victims, as usual, are the poor, the children, the elderly, and all those who also don't wanna fight these wars for capitalists. They're not "Ukrainians" in the real... they're living beings, who just seek to live their lives.

My friend I don't really disagree with you it's just that I won't ever go so far as to say we should start to deny other people identities or try to act the non-essentialism police about that.

First of all, diversity is good in itself.

Second of all, we can and should see the transparency in our identities and become conscious of the way they are constructed **but** doing this doesn't mean I as a minority here am even going to be treated fairly. I am already treated by nationalists as scum because of my accent and hometown. They are the ones who use a false universalism to imply we can't have a truly liberal society untill people like me are murdered out. What they mean is their own ethno-nation but the clever ones know how to disguise that fact.

You talk about the British Mandate for Palestine, do you know who one of the founding Zionists was? Chaim Herzog, an Irish nationalist, the 'Sinn Fein Rabbi'. They named a park after him in the Republic. The same freaks who think I should be killed for being a 'British colonial'. The same Republic that is Israel's third largest export market, or was.

Billy (not verified) Mon, 10/05/2026 - 07:41

In reply to by Vulkangroupie (not verified)

I think there's more to it than this.

Because a) **Power itself**, including the particular ethno genocidal power of one people, plays the game of dissolving other identities it doesn't like into a universal. It's just really **their** universal.

And today, by existing at all, people like me are deserving of murder because we don't support a United Ireland and thus we prevent true "progress", which is somehow only achieved when nationalism gets total control of a single island state, and gets rid of us.

The problem with being opposed to separate identities and saying "oh but we are all just one" is that when you are a minority, it doesn't matter if you see yourself as one, and equal, the people who hate you and want rid of you don't.

So no, I don't believe we should ever play the game of trying to deny anyone their right to their own separate identity. This is not the same as approving of or accepting whatever the majority politics or culture in that identity are.

Sometimes genocidal power wants to claim we are all one as an excuse to get rid of minority groups it doesn't like.

Like are you going to say 'oh, black Americans and indigenous Americans, they're all just white people who want to grill anyway'.

They're not the same. Pointing this out doesn't mean I think either of these groups have some secret that would revolutionise the world and fix everything, which is how white leftists in the USA seem to fetishise them sometimes.

But once we go down the road of denying and dissolving identities into one big thing we have to ask who benefits from this and what power is using this to legitimate and justify itself?

We already here arguments being made about us here today that strike me as indicative of rationalisations being prepared for another murder campaign and more nationalist death squads:
Variations on the same theme, which is that PUL/Northern Irish/Ulster Scots/Ulster British or whatever label is used people are 'not real' and 'really Irish'. What is meant by 'really Irish' is that we aren't separate from the United Irelanders and should shut up and accept the right of their murderers and mafia to continue to kill whoever they like and lie that it's the Brits fault.

These people now expect us to let them arson immigrants and beat them up and murder them on the streets and say nothing about it, or if we do notice it, blame British colonialism somehow.

The same nationalists discriminate against us, threaten us, stalk us and try to keep us out of every online space where their narratives could be questioned by us.

So, no, a separate identity is often the means by which a minority comes to consciousness and can figure out ways to resist and collectively self defend.

I'm not being tricked into giving that up for the false universalism preached by what is really an Irish ethno-nationalist cult in Fukuyamist drag.

Also, I won't ever accept all situations are the same.

I'm never going to equivocate.

The nation of Poland was better than Nazi occupied Poland. Fact. What is now Czechia is better than when that place was under Soviet occupation.

A nation state is the least worst option if the alternative is worse.

If a nation state is the least worst option then I will not do a form of anti nationalism against it that conveniently alligns with the project of a fascist invasion force.

I am deeply pessimistic.

I do not think any sane fucking human being who understands what is happening in Ukraine, properly, would think it's possible or credible to expect to abolish both states, Russia and Ukraine and everything else.

We need new ideas and theory and more serious thinking. This is getting dangerous for all of Europe.

"I do not think any sane fucking human being who understands what is happening in Ukraine, properly, would think it's possible or credible to expect to abolish both states, Russia and Ukraine and everything else."

The goal of "abolishing the state" is 1st level idealist anarchism. Not all anarchists are into such grandiose goal, as not only they don't have the secret of immortality so they can carry such a giganormous task, but they'd rather spend their energies on something more reachable.

Also because the state is a Leviathan... it's just not something you can easily abolish, or even destroy just with protests, molotovs or whatever. Just look at the loads of huge protests in the Balkans the past years. As for the nation-states of Ukraine and Russia, there's a better likelihood they destroy each other... just that it'll hurt a lot of innocent people in the process. And this is where, maybe, local anarchists can play a positive role, and I supposed some already are.

What is needed for anarchists in my opinion is to form, build their own utopian societies. Or their life-supporting spaces (despite sounding reminiscent of that Nazi lebensraüm imperative), defending their own... not fighting for a cuntry.

Like what happened with the multi-faction insurgency in Myanmar. Locals building spaces of autonomy, guarding it against greater forces. This doesn't require a national bullshit paradigm and its military. Just guerillas, rebels, pirates...

The anarchists goal is not to oppose Russian imperialism, NATO imperialism, UK imperialism or even US imperialism. It's to oppose the EMPIRE. Sooner or later this "Empire" will be global. Either run by the winning state, or by a synarchy of the winnings states. Here's another cause to cultivate (keep cultivating) a global anarchist society. "Our" society.

How's that?

Billy (not verified) Tue, 10/06/2026 - 04:19

I'm not impressed by this idea of "The Empire", have you ever read Hardt and Negri?

This idea is the mirror image of the right wing fear of "globalism". It is also, in my view, inaccurate.

The world we have entered after the death of the dream of a liberal global order is, as John Gray points out, closer to a reversion to the pre WW1 order. There is no "the" empire, there are multiple empires and autarkies that compete in a state of global civil war, as Virilio correctly predicted.

They overlap to an extent that is ironically post national but nationalism only increases. It turns out like discrimination, nationalism is a true universal value on this sad sick little planet.

I despair.

...that's why I use the internet in a non-native language that's still the most widespread language on the planet.

"This idea is the mirror image of the right wing fear of "globalism". It is also, in my view, inaccurate."

It's not as far as to me it's just a potential geopolitical twist for the years/decades to come, but not a bogeyman fueled by conspiracy theory. There might not be a unipolar world run by several different capitalist interests; it's not that relevant to the project I am bringing here, which sits on the notion that there is a drive and need for a level of globality in anarchist struggles, that parallels the global citizenry capitalists have been enjoying, and even the one some communists have, as well. I know about the recent Fascist International taking place, and it appears to be a continuation of the post-war ODESSA organization plan. Just coz Elon baby boy and Pootin are doing dirty gimmicks in many countries doen't mean anarchists should just become isolates and just fade out.

It means that it's time to go from the foolish aboveground militancy to a covert, secretive approach that's at time same time consistently, solidly anarchistic.

But anyways, despair hard! As much as you'd like, if that pleases you. I'd rather be angry or satirical at all the ordinary stupidity! This gives me vitality and focus.

“A nation state is the least worst option if the alternative is worse.”

convenient axiom for nationalists for whom the alternative is ALWAYS worse : it’s always genocide, if we don’t get “our” state then “their” state will kill us all! the state is always “theirs” (the capitalist class’, not the foreigners’) even when it’s a “nation” state and the leaders speak the same language as me and so on. that’s the whole point … if you want a situation where it’s the “least bad”(morality why? good and bad meaning what exactly …?) you probably need to turn the clock back to at least 1848

good luck saving this “europe” thing (from, i guess, the barbaric east?)

Oh man if you had properly read my other posts and know anything about Northern Ireland would you understand why I am not a nationalist.

That is the last thing you can call people like me.

The DAC will tell you that too, DW. They might disagree with everything else I've said but ask them about unionism and nationalism.

'The barbaric east' good one, I didn't say that, but yes it's surely racism to oppose Russia.

You got to do better. My posts went into some detail about what happens to anarchism in a place overlapped by multiple states.

There is serious discussion to be had about anarchism in situations like ours and why it fails. Historically important.

Anyway, anyone else wants to take this discussion up im always here.

Before any serious talk about why anarchism "fails", we gotta agree on the premises, i.e. what is fails AT...

At building a Mass Proletarian Revolution to overthrow the state and capitalism? I guess?

But I don't think that's the goal of the entirety of anarchists worldwide, just that of a super-vocal minority of Workerists and Left populists... who're often disconnected from the People they seek to lead to the Rev.

I'll repeat over and over like a Wayne, as I think I've come to the most solid conclusion we can get these days: that most of what is needed atm is just the abandonment of this absurd, hypocritical, badly-outdated, external imperative of the MPR, and rather devote our efforts at building an utopia, for anarchists, both locally and globally. I want thousands of bolos backed by an international anarchist society, and no fucking bureaucrats in my way to enjoy them.

If anyone wants long-ass ESSAYS about it I can publish that a bit later...

I agree with you completely.

When I said anarchism fails I meant it failed here and it will fail at the goal of the abolition of the state for the foreseeable future.

Because of this, the only pragmatic approach in my view, that can prevent out ethnic cleansing by Irish nationalists is to maintain the union. The DAC etc don't want to do that but they're part of the racially pure Irish group that the fascists see as having a right to live here and I and my friends are not. They won't be targeted by the far right to any serious extent compared to what they want to do to us.

When it comes to the rest of what you've said, please do publish an essay, would like to read it.

I'm skeptical about anticapitalism. Spent too many years reading the theory of that dead end.

Markets without capitalism is intriguing. Some of the C4SS speculations appeal to me. I think more work needs to be done here.

I'm long beyond the point of seeing the term capitalism as a useful description of where we are today. I'm too Baudrillardrian for that, like a lot of us here (not the DAC/Irish Gael side of things, they're still living in the 19th century).

We already had a century of critiques of Marxism. Baudrillard was correct in the 70s about it and his theorisation of it aligns with what actually happened to states like China with their state controlled free market hybrid totalitarianism.

Anyway, a United Ireland will only intensify capitalism here. It will be a disaster. As soon as London withdraws it's free money and Dublin takes over any politician that suggests to the RoI people they should pay the tax needed to fund us will be voted out, assuming a single one of them even would argue that which I don't believe.

I don't think abolishing capitalism is possible but again, at this point the term capitalism is as mystically overused as neoliberalism so we don't even have a coherent definition.

And any way out of what we call capitalism won't happen with some magical consciousness change but will assemble itself internally and then exit the system gradually.

Firstly, hi SE, nice to see you're still around ;).
Nationalism is crass and has no style. For the ignorant hordes who obey it, it is a barbiturate/methamphetamine cocktail, dumbed down with an aggressive edge. The anarch smokes some opium and perceives an antinomianist balance between self-preservative power and freedom.

I should write a history of the sad but hilarious attempts of some of us in the bumpkin core of Mid Ulster to start a little anarchist scene.

We had it all, drugs, PTSD, mental illness, and a brief flourishing of a non sectarian clique made up of all kinds of rejects.

I guess we did shelter each other in our own way.

I stood there with guys who were all my friends and their fathers gen would have been actively trying to murder each other or at least officially supposed to years before.

You know what's funny? Their surnames. Mr True Indigenous Gaelic Irish only nationalist with his English surname and Mr. Loyal and True British Ulster with his Irish Gael surname.

Racism is stupider and more real than many people know. Seeing through it, sadly, does not make it go away.

Update on the protest.

SF, the largest richest group of landlords on the island. It's President Gerry Adams showed up, one of this island's most prolific serial killers, who murdered women and abducted random civilian catholic men, strapped bombs to them and forced them to suicide bomb under threat of murdering their family. Novara media and your Marxist friends love them. Sinn Fein's policies including limiting social housing, making sure tax isn't paid by mansion owners and bleating about how the government are all Brits and it's all their fault. As late as 2003 Sinn Fein said they were against private property itself. Now they own more of it than anyone else on this island. Marxism in action.

Kneecap, the 'socialist' rap band, a drugged up middle class art school novelty act who went from ironic Ra to just IRA, who support Sinn Fein showed up. The same Sinn Fein whose offices have been used to schedule kneecappings by appointment of working class children, for owing drug debts to Sinn Fein IRA. Kneecap will sue you if you criticise them, free speech warriors you see. Very popular with Americans and leftists.

One of the new further right nationalist parties showed up, the Irish National Party. Openly fascist.

There's your friends DAC. Solidarity with the workers!
