What is the Mostra?
The MOSTRA DEL LLIBRE ANARQUISTA DE VALÈNCIA is a meeting place that offers the opportunity to strengthen old friendships and establish new contacts, to make a recapitulation of the struggles and social movements, to debate new strategies to overthrow capitalism and patriarchy and to prepare the future revolution. It is also one of the public faces of anarchism in Valencia and its surroundings. Anyone unfamiliar with anarchist ideas or interested in learning more about the subject can go to the stands, read the books, listen and participate in the lectures, concerts, workshops and debates or simply talk to the people around them.
How it is organized
The MOSTRA is organized by an open working group that begins to meet in October in different anarchist spaces in the city. The people who participate in it choose the dates of the MOSTRA (usually a week in April) and propose activities, books to present; but we also accept proposals that arrive by other means.
The person who accepts the proposal of a book or activity is in charge of carrying it out or organizing the presentation. Together we study the proposals, make the necessary contacts and, if everything goes well, by the end of the year we have confirmed a large part of the program even if the schedules are not completely closed.
We also get in touch with all kinds of projects related to the publishing and distribution of books to invite them to participate in the fair that we organize on the weekend at the Plaça del Carme.
In addition, we organize a presentation party weeks before, where we present the program of the MOSTRA.
How to collaborate
Everyone interested is invited to participate and collaborate with the MOSTRA both in this and the next editions.
We propose 5 ways to do it:
- Attending the assemblies and actively participating in the organization of the Mostra.
- Proposing and taking part in book presentations, lectures, debates, performances, etc.
- Dissemination: posting the banner on websites and the poster on social networks, at the locals and in the streets. You will find posters and flyers at Escola Meme, Ateneu Llibertari del Cabanyal, CSOA l'Horta, Espai de Lliure Aprenentatge El Punt, CSOA CSN, BSO Ca La Caixeta, Iniciativa Dàhlia, etc.
- Labor for the activities, poster pasting, assembly, cleaning, renting, pinxes and cooks for the week-end dinners, supply of various materials (tables, tents, etc.)...
- Recollecting economically. The Mostra is self-managed with the money generated by its own activities. All the events of the Mostra are free admission, but after each activity we pass a pot. Every contribution is welcome!
The MOSTRA is a collective tool and you are invited to make it your own.

Are you involved in a project related to the publishing or distribution of anti-authoritarian books and want to set up a stand in the Plaça del Carme?

We demand critical content, we organize the MOSTRA voluntarily for the dissemination of anarchist ideas, the memory of the struggles against domination and radical social criticism. We appeal to common sense to destroy what content has no place in the MOSTRA. We want to generate a space free of feixist, authoritarian, masclist, racist, LGTBIphobic, ableist, fatphobic, etc. attitudes.
Propose activities
Please contact us as soon as possible, bearing in mind that at the end of the year we usually have a full week. The week that the Mostra lasts is not enough and unfortunately there are always books left out of the program.
Access
The events of the MOSTRA take place in different self-managed spaces of the city, each one with its own characteristics. If you have difficulties accessing any event, please let us know so that we can attend to your particular needs and ensure a more inclusive space for everyone. If you are deaf and require interpretation and/or written material, please let us know and we will do our best to provide it. We ask that you contact us for any specific access needs.
Anarchism
Like all good ideas, anarchy starts from a very simple and convincing premise: people know how to live our lives and organize ourselves better than any expert could, indeed, we give the best of ourselves when we live without an imposed authority, that is to say, deciding for ourselves instead of receiving orders. This is the meaning of the word: without government.
Many of us know this (although there are also some rare ones who enjoy going around like shit in a sieve) but we also know how difficult it often is to do anything important on our own; if you try, you will probably contravene some law or order.
But throughout history, people have always tried to live freely, sometimes on their own, sometimes in small groups, and sometimes in large popular movements.
That is what anarchism is all about, to celebrate and support all these attempts to build a free world for all, where everyone takes control of their lives, free from all domination.
Anarchists see this as something desirable and necessary. We are also aware that it can only happen if everyone is involved in carrying it forward.
Everyone must be free, not just a few, not just a majority, everyone!
When everyone is involved in making a free world, that is what we anarchists call revolution and that is what this is all about.
This is a brief approach to anarchism. There are many more descriptions on the web, probably better. If you want to deepen your knowledge of the anarchist ideology and practices we suggest you visit the pages of our blog links section.
