Revenge of the Return of Anarchy and Democracy (Revisited)

From Libertarian Labyrinth by Shawn P. Wilbur

The most recent issue of Anarcho-Syndicalist Review includes an article by Wayne Price, “Do Anarchists Support Democracy? The Opinions of Errico Malatesta,” in which he once again takes up the defense of “democracy” as at least consistent with anarchist principles. A brief discussion of the article on the North American Anarchist Studies Association list picked up threads from the 2017 C4SS “Mutual Exchange” on anarchy and democracy.

Should Anarchists Be Antinatalists?

From Anarchist Studies Blog

My Argument

Antinatalism means being against reproduction on ethical grounds – in typical cases, not having children and believing that the decision not to have children is morally right. Other definitions, some of them extending their scope to other species, have been offered but this characterization is sufficient for my purposes here.

Reflections on the ASN8 conference – looking back/forward

From Anarchist Studies

Early September in Belfast can be surprisingly sunny and balmy. It was so sunny even, that the closing plenary after three days of conferencing at Ulster University happened outside, in the sunshine – providing a physically open space as an opportunity for open dialogue between all participants. During the plenary, there were some initial reflections on the 8th edition of the conference, as well as some first promising ideas for the next edition.

As Robert Haworth notes in his introduction to this volume,
there is a rich tradition of anarchist criticism of state schooling
as one of the institutions that ‘uphold and reinforce’ a
particular set of social, political, economic and cultural ideas
(p6). This collection of work by educational activists, theorists
and practitioners promises to document and explore the
‘radical learning spaces’ emerging as alternatives to the
social imaginaries of formal state schooling.
