TOTW: 2020 - The year past, the year ahead

Topic of the week - As 2020 comes to a close, let’s take a look back at the ongoing social upheavals worldwide, the inspiring international anarchist actions, some books that have kept you turning the pages, and the music that has been the soundtrack to it all. 2020 has been a year, to say the least.

One year after the popular revolt, the anarchist fire is gaining strength

From Act for Freedom!, Chile

“…when you look for alliances, you end up modifying your objectives in the name of the political justification of the struggle: a “better future”. Not realizing that faith in the future is essential for the perpetuation of domination. Basically, behind this positioning are concealed outdated instituting positions. True to the echo of the siren song, some have heard verses of praise to freedom – which resonate at the dawn of every revolution – without knowing that in reality they are just hymns to the new constituent Power.

TOTW: Anarchy and Trauma

I know that, before I had ever encountered critical discourse or radical politics, before I'd attended my first protest or meeting, before I had debated anyone on political theories either face to face or on the Internet, my first experiences of disenfranchisement towards the state, capitalism, civilisation, etc., and desires to rebel came from direct personal experiences that were mostly, in some way or another, traumatic. The trauma of childhood poverty, of bullying teachers in school, of family members dependent on drugs and alcohol, these all left me with a feeling of "I hate this shit", long before I had read anything on economics or anarchism.

Lucio Urtubia: An anarchist life

His life, which sounds like an adventure novel, is a mirror of the revolutionary movements in Europe in the second half of the 20th century. Lucio Urtuba passed away today. Rest In Power Lucio!
