Eight weeks into Trump’s war with Iran, the origins of the Islamic Republic are worth revisiting. The regime now confronting Washington was born in the upheaval of 1979, when the Shah’s pro-Western monarchy collapsed and Ayatollah Khomeini seized the revolutionary moment. But the Iranian Revolution was no unified uprising. The anti-Shah movement brought together a volatile mix of factions: secular nationalists, pro-Soviet Communists, Marxist guerrillas, religious left-wing militants, and Islamic fundamentalists. By 1980, Khomeini had outmaneuvered his rivals and consolidated a regime that has endured ever since.

American and Israeli bombs have been falling on Iran for over a month. Civilians are dying, hundreds of them children. More than a million people have been displaced. The internet has been down since February 28, 2026. Now the war has spread throughout the region.

While opposing and condemning the US-Israeli war against Iran, we oppose and condemn the antisemitic war of the Islamic regime of Iran against (Israeli civilians and against the people of Kurdistan, Khuzestan, Baluchistan and Azerbaijan). We also declare our opposition to the war and attacks of the Pakistani government on Afghan cities.

I'm writing for you from Iran, sitting in front of TV and watching Pro-Hamas and pro-Islamic Republic protests by western lefties and anti-war activists! Protesters are carrying the Islamic Republic flag, and the Islamic regime in Iran is happily showing them as its international supporters! Maybe the protesters think they are standing against the Imperialism or Trump or maybe they think they are supporting Palestine. Which I can strongly say is a great misunderstanding.

I have been doing a deep dive on Mikhail Bakunin‘s philosophy. The Political Philosophy of Mikhail Bakunin, by G.P. Maximoff is an excellent resource. Most of Bakunin’s theoretical writings are scattered throughout various articles, letters, manifestoes and half-finished manuscripts, and as a result his theoretical contributions to anarchism are often overlooked. Maximoff’s book is a sort of “Bakunin mixtape” which collects and organizes all of his theoretical writings into a relatively coherent narrative.

Second interview with Anarchist Front on repression and resilience, regional war, and internet shutdowns

This week, an interview with Aryanum, a member of the Persian-language anarchist group Anarchism Perspective, based in Iran and Afghanistan. Anarchism Perspective is a synthesist anarchist group based mostly in the region that organizes solidarity and resistance as well as publishing writings at Anarshism.com . For this episode, we speak about the recent uprising in Iran that was met with bloody repression by the regime, with internet blackouts and low-ball estimates of 30,000 dead at government hands from January 8th and 9th 2026 alone. Aryanum speaks about the posturing by monarchists supporting the return and enthroning of Reza Pahlavi II, the son of the last Shah, and the weaponization of Islam by the Mullahs of the regime and other topics.
