The Angle Grinder of Revolution: Against the Commuter and its World

A new essay and zine published anonymously by Filler PGH.

The commuter is the modality through which every other identity is shaped and borne within this techno-industrial prison. The negation of the commuter is the negation of civilization and the bare life it has enforced; the negation of the commuter is the affirmation of wildness, of freedom, of possibility.

We therefore affirm again, our hearts full with insurgent ferocity: every commuter is a target.

Russia: The End of Peaceful Protest

via raddle.me

Peaceful and "legal" protest in Russia has been suppressed. Moreover, it is now impossible in principle: in a matter of days, the state has adopted a package of laws which make even shouting "No to War!" illegal. And liberal human rights activists are already handing out instructions: don't shout and write "No to War!", while pro-government journalists are making Orwell spin in his coffin by seriously producing stories that the slogan "No to War" came from Nazi leaflets.

Behind the Black Bloc

From Foundation for Defense of Democracies by Daveed Gartenstein-Ross, Samuel Hodgson, & Austin Blair

An Overview of Militant Anarchism and Anti-Fascism

In 2020–2021, the United States saw a discernible rise in armed politics and violent activism. Multiple factions and movements resorted to violence or the threat of violence to pursue their objectives, and the United States witnessed scenes it had not experienced for decades, such as armed citizens patrolling the streets in Georgia, Kentucky, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and elsewhere.1 Militant anarchists and anti-fascists often took to the streets during this period. On August 29, 2020, Michael Reinoehl became the first anti-fascist responsible for a killing in the United States in 25 years when he shot Aaron Danielson, a member of the far-right group Patriot Prayer, at a rally in Portland, Oregon.2

ToTW: Escaping Silos

When I use youtube.com, I use different browser containers, based on what I'm looking for. One container is for news, and serious content, and I do my best (given that I'm ambivalent about news anyway) to find a variety of sources, including mainstream, international, etc. I actively stay away from progressive sources, since those tend to be the assumptions I already make. I mostly don't use the suggested viewing options provided by Their algorithms, but of course that is a lost cause, most likely.

In Defense of Black Bloc at NYC Protests

via AMW

On the Breonna Taylor March

While the language of “No Bad Protesters” and “No Peace police” is common amongst abolitionists, anti-fascists, and anarchists, many within the broader Black Lives Matter movement were shocked to see the Black Bloc. One protester accused the Black Bloc of being outside agitators and inciting violence. Another questioned why the Black Bloc insisted on thoroughly disguising their identity.
