A Call for New Lines of Conflict: Confronting the Second Trump Era

From Rupture Press
by Tom Nomad

Panic has started to set in. Over the past month we have watched as jackbooted immigration agents raid restaurants and drag children’s parents away. We have watched as the world’s richest and most arrogant man is given free reign to remake the conditions of our lives without any ability to push back. Above all, we are watching a much more organized attempt to seize and hold onto power than the vaguely planned out chaos of the first administration. For many, the situation feels hopeless.

Some Initial Thoughts on the Concept of Revolution

from Staring Into the Abyss by Tom Nomad

A Review of Specters of Revolt

For the last little bit of time I have been working through some thoughts on the concept of revolution. These are still very much in formation, and will probably be the subject of at least part of a book I plan on working on starting this fall. In doing research for the text I came across a text called Specters of Revolt, by Richard Gilman-Opalsky, and had some thoughts that seemed worth sharing, even as nothing more than an opening salvo in this discussion.

Insurgent Strategy on Immediatism podcast

These five episodes are readings of three essays on insurgent strategy, from Insurgencies: A Journal on Insurgent Strategy, by The Institute for the Study of Insurgent Warfare. The first, What is Insurgency (episode 584) sets up our understanding of insurgent situations and practices. The second, A Life of Lies (episodes 585 and 586) discusses the construction of the self out of phenomenological experience, that we can not access others and so we construct our knowledge of them, goes on to discuss how law and law enforcement pose constant threats to the individual, and then identifies and discusses five methods of threat management for the individual. In the final essay, Some Thoughts on the Limits of Surveillance (episodes 587 and 588) the popular mental construction of the panopticon is explained and lamented as deterring people from acting in ways that are possible; the collection, analysis, weaponization, and operationalization of data are explained as processes that should empower us to identify the constant gaps in surveillance and to act in insurgent ways in those gaps.

Toward an Army of Ghosts on Immediatism Podcast

Tom Nomad would like to see anarchists operate in increasingly illegible ways, whilst conducting real-time analysis about police operations, as explained in this companion volume to The Master's Tools. To challenge the state, anarchists must operate within the gaps in police coverage, with the intention of disrupting policing itself, which is what enacts the state in material reality. Thinking theory itself is action, and has value to the extent that the theorizing we are doing interrupts policing and so disrupts the state.
