Armed Struggle

from Anathema Vol 6 Issue 7 via AMW

In that sense, just as “anarchists must say what only anarchists can say,” it does us no favors to settle for doing what others are already doing – particularly if it’s neither immediately effective nor building capacity. Not that we are likely to normalize any behavior, either, but we can expand the imaginary as to what is possible. This is not a suggestion to simply grow our capacity for violence or join some sort of gun-worship culture, either, but to recognize arms as another tool among many that an increasing number of us are holding. We may incorporate arms as it seems feasible and helpful towards goals of rupture and insurrection, as well as expanding the physical and psychological capacities of our attacks.

Between Electoral Politics and Civil War

from CrimethInc.

As Election Day approaches in a context of anxiety about the prospect of Donald Trump attempting to hold onto power by force or cunning, the revolutionary potential that was palpable in early June has receded almost beyond the horizon. Anarchism, abolitionism, and direct action tactics have gained traction throughout the Trump era; thanks to the fearmongering of the administration, anarchists have as much visibility as we have experienced in a century. Yet once again, we are watching the election crowd out any other subject or strategy.

TOTW: Anarchy & Morality

In the upswing of revolt we've seen this year, we're seeing everyday people set cop cars and precincts ablaze with great approval from onlookers. Meanwhile anarchists make the best of the spotlight to explain to the public the truth about today's anarchists. Responding to people's perception of anarchism as dangerous, distancing themselves from anarchists of the deed in an effort to make people stop blaming everything bad on anarchists. To the degree that anarchy is rehabilitated for the general public, more people will ask themselves: "What's so bad about anarchy, anyway?"

Lucy Parsons Has Something to Say about 2020

from Wear Your Voice

Lucy Parsons Has Something to Say about 2020

Described as “more dangerous than a thousand rioters”, Lucy Parsons’ writings and speeches were reflective of her time and continue to be relevant today. The summer of 2020 was ~eventful~ in terms of political focus on anarchists and anarchism. I rolled my eyes every time an American politician blamed anarchists for chaos, showing clearly how willfully ignorant they were about anarchism as a philosophy.

The Truth about “The Truth about Today’s Anarchists”

In Defense of Black Bloc at NYC Protests

via AMW

On the Breonna Taylor March

While the language of “No Bad Protesters” and “No Peace police” is common amongst abolitionists, anti-fascists, and anarchists, many within the broader Black Lives Matter movement were shocked to see the Black Bloc. One protester accused the Black Bloc of being outside agitators and inciting violence. Another questioned why the Black Bloc insisted on thoroughly disguising their identity.

Unarmed Insurrection

Unarmed insurrection and the Hot Summer of 2020

This summer’s insurrection requires a critical investigation of the ideal of nonviolence, in order to understand and develop new popular tactics.

Fuck the Cops & the Feds! Olympia Solidarity With PDX

submitted anonymously –

A call was put out for a demo here in Olympia in solidarity with Portland against the deployment of the federal agents. I showed up to the Heritage Park Fountain a little late but when I got there I was greeted by a crowd size I haven’t seen since the beginning of the uprising. There was probably around 150 people, 75-100 of them in bloc and geared up with helmets, shields, umbrellas, and a few gas masks.

2020 Uprising Ongoing

cops don't cum

From AMW

On Saturday, July 25th, 2020, revolutionaries gathered in cities across the country in response to the deployment of unmarked vans filled with ICE and other fascist personnel to Portland, OR, snatching comrades off of the streets in recent weeks; as well as plans to send these thugs to other cities in the weeks to come. Meanwhile, the murder of black people by police and right-wing civilians continues unabated. Precincts were attacked, State vehicles burned throughout the night, and countless federal buildings were smashed.
