Solidarity Breakfast in Canarias

"Breakfast Program (FAGC)"

Neighborhood anarchism and strong social communities

The Gran Canaria Anarchist Federation has been taking action to address basic needs for a decade now, be it through housing or food autonomy projects. Social community projects become stronger when they learn to manage and solve the problems that they take-on as their own. The comrades conclude that “in the face of the ineptitude, inability and disinterest of the institutions toward this situation, worsened by the consequences of the pandemic and the wars, we launched this initiative that aims to feed tens of minors with healthy nutrition and without animal suffering”. Revolutions are made from the barricades, with a well fed stomach.

Theory and Analysis

The Federación Anarquista de Gran Canaria or FAGC celebrates its 10 years of existence this month. In the past we already translated a series of articles written by them outlining their ideological approach in what they call “neighbourhood anarchism”. But to celebrate this anniversary we decided to translate a summary of their history in these 10 years where they went from disrupting speeches by reforminist unions during the 15M square occupations to being the single entity in Gran Canaria that has facilitated more houses for people.

Call for solidarity with Ruymán Rodríguez

The Green Anticapitalist Front translated an statement published by the Federación Anarquista Gran Canaria (Gran Canaria Anarquist Federation) where they detail the political persecution of their member Ruymán Rodríguez, who is facing false charges to cover up the brutal violence they inflicted upon him as part of a ploy to repress the radical housing movement in Gran Canaria. The FAGC he’s part of has been involved in a very successful social movement for housing in Gran Canaria and has helped hundreds of families left abandoned by the state. Like any other threat to its legitimacy, the state couldn’t allow this to continue unchallenged.

Interview with Gran Canaria Anarchist Federation - GAF does Lockdown Ep. 14

In this episode of GAF does Lockdown we’ll be interviewing a member of FAGC (Federación Anarquistas Gran Canaria or Gran Canaria’s Anarchist Federation), which centres most of its activity on the issues of housing, rent and homelessness. They are known for starting the Sindicato de Inquilinas de Gran Canaria (Gran Canaria’s Renter’s Union) which has been housing homeless people in squatted buildings run along anarchists’ principles. The biggest one so far, La Esperanza, houses more than 260 people, around 160 of them minors.
