Another Carolina Anarchist Bookfair

Another Carolina Anarchist Bookfair in Asheville, NC, August 11th – 13th

Via Another Carolina Anarchist Bookfair

Another Carolina Anarchist Bookfair is back from COVID hiatus and will be held in Asheville, NC from August 11-13. This year we will be working once again with our comrades in Pansy Collective, who will complement days of workshops and tabling with evenings of queer music and parties. It’s a special year, as well, since we’ll be helping our local, collectively-owned anarchist bookstore inaugurate their new location as a hub for the bookfair.

I Really Don’t Care About “Normal” People

wew, absolute mad lad! *"We're Not Gonna Take It" by Twisted Sister blares in the background*

From Nerd Teacher

Every so often, there’s a discussion in anarchist circles about how we need to tread lightly, sound more realistic, and stop dreaming about “perfect utopias” because otherwise we’ll “scare the normal people off.” If we keep talking about a world so drastically different from the one we’re in, the “normal” people won’t even want to participate! We’ll never get traction! No one will want to do it! This sentiment is beyond infuriating, and it doesn’t make me care about “normal” people because “normal” people—or anyone who claims to be “normal”—just don’t care about people like me.

Passaic, NJ: Queer Youth Walk Out, Direct Action Gets the Goods

from Jersey Counter-Info

Queer youth in Passaic County took to the streets this week as a direct response to the Passaic County School Board’s recent policy change which now only allows nationalist flags to be flown on school property. The change in school policy came as a shock to local queer students, as several schools in the district flew pride flags throughout last year.

The Faggots & Their Friends on Immediatism podcast

Immediatism now has available readings of the full text of the classic The Faggots and Their Friends Between Revolutions, by Larry Mitchell. Delightfully told through story, it is a history of the experience of non-normative sexuality in the seventies, in the north american context. The concept and writing came about in San Francisco and the book was published in 1977 by Calamus Books, New York City. It is now available through distros including ContagionPress.com and LittleBlackCart.com, as a faithful reprint. If your interest is the concept and metastory, you might enjoy listening to the introduction (episode 765) and also the afterword which is included in the final episode's intro (episode 769). Surprisingly, the endearing story ends with what can be read as an allusion to recuperation and an analysis against identity politics.

Poly and Other Relationships, on Immediatism

Immediatism has been looking at relationships and how anarchist views, and ways of talking about relationships, have changed over time. This was done by reading all of the following pieces in chronological order, followed by a piece translated by Seaweed as an encore. Here, you have Emma Goldman and Voltairine de Cleyre to compare with Clemence x Clementine and Andie Nordgren.
