30 years Liebig 34 – We never stop!

30 years Liebig 34 – We never stop!

From Squat!net, Berlin

The Liebig 34 will celebrate its 30th birthday at the beginning of July. Eviction titles, media hype and annoying cops don’t spoil these days. Viva la Liebig!

Thirty years ago, after the fall of the Wall, people from a wide variety of backgrounds flocked to East Berlin to take advantage of the chance offered by the unresolved chains of command and the unspeakable vacancy. Entire streets and blocks of houses were occupied, redesigned and filled with ideas and creativity. The streets of Friedrichshain were full of life and very practical solidarity. At one corner there was a discussion meeting, in the next open-air cinema and there food was cooked for the whole street.

Greece: Gare squatters say ‘The best days have yet to come’

From Freedom News UK

On February 2nd we took the initiative to burglarize our own house. Gare in Athens is not just for its own members, it belongs to the entire movement. We hung a banner in solidarity with the free spaces and in solidarity with D. of Gare banner saying “Power to the wanted Comrade D. Chatsivachiliadi, Solidarity to the Squats, The State is the Only Terrorist”. We do this action in solidarity and also as an act of resistance: our way of fiercely protecting our ideas, our lives, our spaces, our houses, and our futures.

by André Tzara

The road is free for the second phase of my action plan. Now that everyone is slowly coming back from summer, I’m making the first big bang. The cleansing action begins. Finally they will respect me. Mitsotakis is my name. I will bring great honour to my family. And by the way, I mentioned in Parliament the end of capital controls. A good day. For the nation. For me.

Squatter’s Digest: Greece

From Freedom Press UK

Greece, the home of democracy. And molotov cocktails. They also enjoy regular cocktail nights to raise money for the squats and imprisoned anarchists.

It’s one thing to know what is going on inside the UK with regards to squats, but I feel we are severely lacking in communication with squats across Europe, or indeed the world. Hopefully I can bring to you some of the news from some of the squats in Greece along with the usual round-up of news from London and beyond.
